History
The members of Jackson Palmer first began playing together in 2000, forming a blues-rock band and trailing the Leeds circuit for a couple of years. In 2003, however, a growing love of the burgeoning Alt.Country scene in America forced the band to assess their musical direction. A lineup change later, including the addition of Toby Ware on keyboards, and Jackson Palmer was born.
Since then, Jackson Palmer have been regulars on the Leeds scene, and have supported the likes of Sheffield’s Chicken Legs Weaver and New York’s Curtis Eller’s American Circus, as well as their own shows.
In Easter 2004, Jackson Palmer began work on their debut mini-album, “Sun in the Fall”, which is due to be released via the band in September.
Plans are also being made already to record another album’s worth of material in the New Year.
Music/Influences
The members of Jackson Palmer share a love of American music in particular, and hold bands such as Canyon, Richmond Fontaine, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket, Fleetwood Mac and Lambchop and artists such as Elton John, Ryan Adams and Neil Young as direct influences on Jackson Palmer’s brand of widescreen, emotive Americana.
Jackson Palmer make no excuses about holding music in a higher regard than fashions or trends, and their music reflects that. In a typical Jackson Palmer setlist, shamelessly honest, storytelling songs such as ‘Sun in the Fall’ and ‘Song a Day’ sit next to the stripped-down stomp of ‘Shame’ or ‘Horse’. Add to that Allman-esque instrumentals such as Silver Pennies and the lush soundscapes of ‘Frank’ and ‘Falling Autumn Leaves’ and you have good example of Jackson Palmers’ truly epic and unique take on English Americana.
